Today we decided to dig up our sweet potatoes! We had a grand time digging them and laughing at their funny shapes and how HUGE they were. It really was pretty funny! I had no idea we had let them get that big!
Here are some of the shapes! One of them looked like a heart. Not a cutesy little heart. But like a heart that came out of a body. Ha!
So funny!
Titus helped me get them harvested. I dug them up and he pulled them out of the dirt and put them in the wagon. That wagon was heavy!
So they are out "curing" for a couple of hours in the sun. I am just pretending like I know what I am doing. But really, this is the first year that I grew them. I should have taken pictures of the patch before I dug them up. The vines were everywhere and it was kind of hard to find where to dig. And I ended up chopping some of them in half. Oops. I think I'll use flags to mark where to dig next year.
But as far as I could read on the good old google search, it shouldn't matter that they are so huge?? In fact, as long as they weren't rotting, some info I found, said that the longer you leave them in the ground the more nutrients they have? Don't know if it is true or not? I guess we'll find out if they at least taste okay. I sure hope so!
